چکیده

DILL, L. M. 1978. Aggress~ve distance in juvenile coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). Can. J . Zool. 56: 14411446. The distances from which resident coho salmon approached, charged, or gave lateral displays to inhuders were recorded, as were rhe npproach and charge velocities. Ench of five residents was terted while under rhree Feeding t e ~ i m e ~ . and In response to three sizes of intnzder COmm ~maller, 10mm bmaller. and of the siime size a5 the res~denr), Larger intruders were ;ipproached and displayed to from greater distances. and charge distance also tended to increase with intruder size. Feeding regime had no erfects on aggressive distance. Neither approach nor charge veloc~ty was influenced ky intruder size. hut charge velocity was highest In the least well fed fish. These results are discussed with reference to theeconomic defendirhility theory of territorial~tv.

Food abundance and territory size in juvenile coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch)

DILL, L. M., R. C. YDENBERG, and A. H. G. FRASER. 1981. Food abundance and territory size in juvenile coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). Can. J. Zool. 59: 180 1 1809. Feeding territory size and potential food abundance were measured simultaneously in a field population of juvenile (40-50 mm) coho salmon. Territory size was inversely related to the density of benthic food on the territory, as p...

A top-down survival mechanism during early marine residency explains coho salmon year-class strength in southeast Alaska

their year-class strength is necessary from both scientific and management perspectives. We examined correlations among juvenile coho salmon indices, associated biophysical variables, and adult coho salmon harvest data from southeast Alaska over the years 1997–2006. We found no relationship between summer indices of juvenile coho salmon growth, condition, or abundance with subsequent harvest of...

Cost of Sustained and Burst Swimming to Juvenile Coho Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch)

The relationship between oxygen consumption rate (milligrams per kilogram per hour) and sustained swimming speed (calculated from tailbeat frequency) was determined for 1.2-g juvenile coho salmon (Owes~bsywcbshss kisuteh) at 15°C. The data are best described by the followiwg equation: log oxygen consumption rate = 2.2 + 0.13(brady lengths-s-'). This relationship is very similar to that extrapol...

Growth and condition of juvenile coho salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch relate positively to species richness of trophically transmitted parasites.

The aims of this study were first, to test the hypothesis that metrics of fish growth and condition relate positively to parasite species richness (S(R)) in a salmonid host; second, to identify whether S(R) differs as a function of host origin; third, to identify whether acquisition of parasites through marine v. freshwater trophic interactions was related to growth and condition of juvenile sa...
